Men’s Prayer Breakfast – February 25

Friday, February 24th, 2017

Men's prayer breakfast2

Dear Men,

Hafa adai!  I trust that you are doing well.  Just a friendly pastoral reminder concerning Men’s Prayer Breakfast tomorrow morning, Saturday February 25th.  We are privileged to have Lawrence Nagengast share a brief challenge and time that we can pray.  For those of you that are bringing your young boys and teens, it is a great “dad and lad” opportunity and creates good memories for the boys in the future.  In advance, I want to thank the men that are helping with the prep as well.

We look forward also to Sunday as we prepare our hearts for Sunday and Mission Conference starting on Wednesday.  Try to rearrange your schedule now and, if applicable, prepare your wife and children.

“Prayer is a dialogue between two people that are in love with each other.”  Andrew Murray

Henson’s 40th Anniversary

Hensons 40th

Pastor Joe and Garthea Henson celebrated 40 years of marriage and church ministry this past Sunday. Pastor Herron expressed thanks to God for their ministry in our morning service. As he described their work and family, a surprise was standing by.

Sons Joe and Garth were on-island with their wives Kristi and Becky. Their arrival brought tears, hugs, and applause from the church family. Joe, a pastor in North Carolina, and Garth, a technical lead in Seattle, grew up on Guam.

The evening service was a time of celebration and honor. Old friends, church family, sons, and daughters in-law were on hand for the fellowship. Each praised God for His work through Pastor Joe and Garthea on our island.  Pastor Joe Henson III preached and Garth was able to give his testimony. Garth and Becky were also able to sing a special.  See the Sunday evening service video below.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast – January 21

Men's prayer breakfast

Hafa Adai, Men!

Just a manly and friendly reminder about the Men’s Prayer Breakfast tomorrow morning!  I know how we are as men.  It is for us to forget an activity when everything else is going on.  It is particularly true when it is something that can be of such a great value to us and our sons, if we have one.  We would love to have you out on Saturday at 8 a.m. in the Cafeteria.

Many of you who attend on a regular basis know the great food we have been having as well as a short devotional and good time of prayer together.  Mike McCandless will be sharing tomorrow morning.  There’s something about a bunch of men getting together with their boys that is a great encouragement.

I trust you will make it out if at all possible!

Merry Christmas

Saturday, December 24th, 2016
 Christmas Service 1x1
“Peace on earth, good will toward man . . .”  What an amazing story!  We will conclude our four-part series on Christmas Calls this Christmas Day!  The last time we had the privilege to have a family get-together on Jesus’ birthday was in 2011.  We trust you will make it for this one special service at 10:30 a.m.  Christmas caroling for all, as well as some special music an interactive time to read the Christmas story together as a congregation.  Don’t plan to miss it!
We trust that this week has been one of rejoicing in the true meaning of Christmas.  Plan to get time with your family and friends as our island slows down for a few days.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Merry Christmas,
Pastor Herron

Ladies Christmas Celebration

Friday, December 9th, 2016

DSC_0097 1x1

Tuesday, December 6, over 200 women gathered at the FLC to enjoy an evening of fun, food, and fellowship. The theme for this year’s Ladies Christmas Gathering was “J-O-Y.” How can a person have genuine, lasting joy in their life? It is no secret, just a simple formula of putting Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself last.

What a good reminder to keep Jesus first as we celebrate His incarnation this Christmas season.

Festival of Lights

Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

DSC_9871 1x1

Harvest Baptist Church was privileged to have an estimated 2,000 visitors on campus this past Sunday evening for Festival of Lights.

Guests began arriving at 5:00 PM, early enough to pick up dinner from one of Guam’s best food trucks, in preparation for our 6:30 PM program, A Call of Christmas. This music and drama presentation featured our own Micronesian students, from Harvest Baptist Bible College, and pointed the audience to the story of Christmas and the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Nearly a quarter of a million lights were lit and on display by the time visitors streamed out of the auditorium at 7:30 PM, ready to attend our Jamboree in the Family Life Center. Games, a climbing wall, Christmas train, and family photo booth were featured this year. A coordinated light and music display sounded through the campus, as food trucks and HeBrews Cafe continued to serve.

Volunteers from the church were delighted to greet friends from around the island, and share in the spirit of Christmas. The message of the gospel was clearly presented, and a warm, holiday atmosphere surrounded the event.
