HCA’s beginning, intermediate and advanced bands are highly regarded island-wide for their musicianship, intonation, and performance standards. The bands are under the direction of Miss Carrie Callahan.
During the 2009-2010 school year, nearly 175 students will be involved in this exciting program.
The Senior High Choir is taught every Monday, Wednesday and Friday by Mr. Kevin Inafuku.
The Junior High Choir meets two times a week and is directed by Miss April Briggs.
The Honor Choir consists of fourth, fifth and sixth graders and is under the direction of Miss Lisa Flower.
Each choir director emphasizes the fundamentals of music such as sight-reading and minor music composition. The Choir classes have truly taught the students to use their singing talents for the glory of God!
The Harvest Players drama program was started in the 1995-1996 school year. Its purpose was to enhance the skills of students in different fields such as set construction, team work, artistic view and speech. Drama currently involves 7th through 12th graders. Students learn to work with stage and lighting, as well as acting.
The Harvest Players presents a play in the fall semester and spring semester. The following are plays that have been presented in past years.
- The Velveteen Rabbit
- The Ugly Duckling
- No Opera at the Op’ry House Tonight
- The Miracle Worker
- Our Gal Sal
- The Reluctant Dragon
- The Taming of the Shrew
- The Emperor’s Nightingale
- Remember My Name
- The Emperor’s New Clothes
- The Speckled Band
- The Importance of Being Ernest
The Fall production for 2009 was a dramatic farce called “Afraid of the Dark” by James Reach. It was the first drama to be performed in the new Family Life Center.
The Players
Just as with the different crews, the students make up the Players or actors. They not only gain experience with speaking, but usually are challenged to become someone or something different than they are in real life. With the Harvest Players, an actor or actress may become a sweet, beautiful princess or an old, mean king. Seeing your son or daughter as a princess or an old man is a wonderful experience!
The Crew
The entire stage crew is made up of students. The lighting, the props, the sound, all aspects of the show are run by the students. With this the students gain valuable experience and knowledge on using sound-boards, light-boards, even making props.
The Staff
The Harvest Players are under the direction of Miss Mary Geiman.
Athletics
The backbone and foundational philosophy of all intramural activities is based upon the concept of II Timothy 4:7. I have fought a good FIGHT, I have FINISHED my course, I have kept the FAITH.
We encourage our athletes to abide by the principles of fair play, diligence, honesty, commitment, integrity, self control, tenacity and the ability to lose with grace and win with humility.
