Thursday, March 25, 2010: Michael Cruz, M.D., the Lieutenant Governor of Guam, addressed the Jr. High and High School students during a morning assembly at Harvest Christian Academy. Dr. Cruz recently returned from a four month deployment as a battalion surgeon for an infantry battalion in Afghanistan. The Lieutenant Governor’s goal during his address to the students was to inspire them as he shared some of the photos from his time overseas. At the end of his address Dr. Cruz used the story of his Grandmother and her experience on Guam during World War II and his current role as a soldier to encourage the students regarding the role of service and the call to duty and to not take our freedoms for granted. Afterwards, Pastor Herron, Mr. John McGrew, and representatives of the Seniors of HCA presented Dr. Cruz with a special gift–a wooden eagle, the HCA mascot–as a thank you for taking the time to share with the students of Harvest Christian Academy.
