Young Artists' Competition winners: So Yi Yang (9th) and Bella Moon (6th).

Recently, the Guam Symphony Orchestra held the Young Artists’ Competition. Open to all musicians up to age 21, there were two categories–”piano” and “other instruments.” These categories included young people in three age levels: elementary, junior high and high school/college for a total of six different groups.  Many students competed and about one third of the competitors were students at Harvest Christian Academy.  The judges chose one and sometimes two musicians from each category/age level to play at a winner’s recital, as well as a runner’s up (2nd place).  HCA students Bella Moon (6th grade) and So Yi Yang (9th grade) won for piano and Roy Kim received second place (runner’s up) for violin.  Bella and So Yi will be performing in the Winner’s Showcase Concert on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 7:30pm at they Hyatt Regency Hotel. A strings quartet of HCA faculty members Leah Bere, Andrew Potter, Kelly Schlarb, and James Potter will also be performing. Tickets for adults are $12 in advance and may be purchased at the Faith Bookstore, Brown Bag Café, Dragon Locksmith or $15 at the door.
