Basketball season for the Jr. High boys of Harvest Christian Academy is under way. After starting the season with a victory against Mount Carmel on Thursday night in Agat, the Eagles returned to campus for their first home game on Monday in the Family Life Center. Starting the season 2-0 would prove extremely difficult as the visiting St. John’s Knights were prepared to match the Eagles every step of the way. Fans and parents looked on as the Knights and Eagles played a fast-paced and intense contest. The Eagles were led by Dung Tran with 22 and Nik Cruz with 18 on offense and were able to maintain the lead throughout much of the game. The Knights Dan Del Carmen poured in 31 to try and knock off the Eagles on their home court, but in the end it was the Eagles moving to 2-0 on the season with a 48-40 victory. After the game, Coach Josh Taylor said, “It was a good team effort.” Throughout the beginning of the season, Coach Taylor has stressed the importance of three keys: layups, defense, and rebounding. Coach Taylor said he is “very pleased with our rebounding but (we) need lots of practice with our layups and we’ll be focusing on layups and defense (in practice).”
