Back to School
Second semester is under way at Harvest Christian Academy and both students and teachers adjusted to the new routine after a two week Christmas vacation. Mr. Taylor, 6th grade teacher, advised that it would be best to forget about the vacation and the easiest thing is to just get to work right away. That is exactly what happened throughout the week for all the students. Miss Blum, a 5th grade teacher at HCA, reported that the students made a smooth transition and that it was fun to be back. Mrs. Watson in the school office remarked that things were going great and that it was nice to see all the parents and children and their excitement for the new year.
The transition from the mini-vacation also proved to be a bit of a challenge. Miss Novak, Sr. High instructor, used the words “rough” and “tired” to describe the first week but that the students were getting back into the swing of things. 6th grade teacher, Mr. Potter, summed it up perfectly when he said that the students were getting back into the swing of things, starting to wake up a bit, getting back into the routine, and getting ready for another great semester.
Second semester at HCA promises to be busy but full of exciting opportunities for the students as it includes Spirit Days, Jr. High and High School basketball and volleyball in the FLC gymnasium, the Senior class trip to Japan, field trips and much more. 5th graders are looking forward to studying biomes while 6th graders will be doing an in-depth study of the life of Christ. Students taking speech and participating in the National Forensics League competitions are looking at the possibility of qualifying for an event in Hawaii. Whether it is learning about snow and having a “snowball” fight in 2nd grade or learning about and then re-enacting Grecian and Roman wars with water balloons in 6th grade, the students at HCA usually have a ton of fun during the education they receive. That also includes the elementary students preparing for the upcoming Field Day in April by learning and practicing the various athletic events during their physical education time.
Seniors are of course looking forward to graduation, but the final semester for the class of 2010 also includes the senior trip and as one student put it–”A great year where God will use our class to make a difference!” And all of that is just a sample of the numerous opportunities HCA students are looking forward to during 2nd semester. However, the main objective continues to be helping the students to develop a heart for God. Mr. Abels, High School principal, summed it all up, “That’s why we are here, to affect eternity in (the students) lives and so I’m excited about opportunities to do that this semester.”
