Eagles Take Second Place
The Harvest Christian Academy Eagles high school soccer team finished the regular season at 8-2 and entered the playoffs as the #3 seed. After defeating the St. Paul Warriors in the quarterfinals, the Eagles met up with the #10 seed Simon Sanchez Sharks in the semifinals on Thursday December 17 under the lights at the GFA field in Harmon in a rematch of last year’s championship. The Sharks entered the contest following an upset of the #2 seed Southern Dolphins in the quarterfinals. Over 700 fans were in attendance anxious and eager to see what would happen. They did not have to wait long as the Eagles got off to a quick start when Matt Perez put the Eagles ahead off of a corner kick. The scoring continued as the Eagles took a commanding 5-0 lead into halftime. Another goal at the beginning of the second half closed out the scoring in the Eagles’ 6-0 victory. The win earned the Eagles a berth in the championship match against the #1 seed, the Father Duenas Memorial Friars, on Saturday at 6:30pm at the GFA field. Both teams put forth an excellent effort in an evenly matched contest and neither team was able to score before halftime. The Friars finally broke through in the 53rd minute of the match and then held on for the 1-0 victory that earned them the IIAAG championship.
