Missions Trip Provides Tons of Help
Harvest Baptist Church recently provided assistance with the ongoing construction of Camp Rejoice in Pohnpei. The Babin family, Erik Skogen, Andrew Potter and HBBI graduates Erik and Gabriel worked alongside Pastor William Joel and members of Calvary Baptist Church during a brief missions trip in June. Work days at the camp began with a boat ride transporting materials from the main island to the camp site. Once on site, the team joined men from the church to help remove several huge boulders from the building site, cutting trees and bushes and preparing the concrete forms for the main building. By Saturday, the church men got the concrete mixed and poured. This was a very difficult task since they had to pass it up the scaffold in buckets. By the end of the trip, the bond beam, the main beam for the roof, was completed. While at the campsite, the team also enjoyed delicious local fish, fruit and vegetables plus laughter and fellowship with the people of the church. Each member of the team also had an opportunity to minister during Sunday services. Brian Babin spoke in the English speaking service as well as the Pohnpeian main service on the Nine Attitudes for Christian Maturity from II Peter 5. Erik Skogen spoke in Teen Sunday School on the topic of Godly Communication. Robin Babin spoke in Ladies’ Sunday School from Psalm 51. Andrew Potter spoke in the Evening Service (Pohnpeian) from Colossians 2. The team also sang in the morning services accompanied by ukelele’s and Gabriel on guitar. After the evening service the church enjoyed a delicious pot luck supper. Now that the trip is completed, future progress for the camp includes transporting all the wood (currently staged at a church members house at the boat launch nearest the camp) in small lots. The main bond beam is complete so the next step is building and installing the trusses. The church members plan to begin that the next weekend. Although only on Pohnpei for a just a few days, the team from Harvest Baptist Church was able to provide fellowship, hard work, donated materials, plus the opportunity for preaching and teaching–all of which was an encouragment to Calvary Baptist Church.
