Rio and Jeff sprint to the finish of the Harvest 5K

April 18, 2009:  Students, parents, and faculty of Harvest Ministries joined with people from all across the island of Guam bright and early Saturday morning for the 5th annual Harvest 5K.  Actually, it was just early and not bright as the first few participants actually showed up before the crack of dawn.  But by 6 am the beautiful Guam sunshine was making its way across the island as the race got under way and over 800 runners and walkers made their way from Ypao beach along San Vitores Road and back again.  Along the way, the HCA Eagles high school boy’s volleyball team and girl’s soccer team helped hand out water to each of the runners and walkers.  After the race was over, everyone received a cool Harvest 5K t-shirt and enjoyed fruit and beverages while waiting to see if their number would be called and they would win one of the free prizes.  Over 1,100 individuals registered for the race making it the largest Harvest 5K ever with all of the proceeds from the annual early morning event helping to support the athletic program of Harvest Christian Academy.  By 8 am, the sun was up and the temperature was quickly rising as the morning’s event came to an end.  The hard working athetic and maintenance departments, who had arrived much earlier in the morning, now began to tear down and clean up.  Even though another 5K is in the history books, you can begin to prepare for the 6th annual Harvest 5K a year from now to make sure you can record a personal record and help to support a great cause.  In the meantime, relive the entire morning’s events when you view the photo gallery as you CLICK HERE.
